A Sky Recliners product is an investment — one that should last 10–15 years with proper care. Most recliner damage we see during service calls is entirely preventable with a simple maintenance routine. This guide covers everything: daily habits, seasonal care, motor maintenance and common mistakes to avoid.
Leatherette Care (Most Common)
Daily & Weekly
- Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust
- For surface marks: damp cloth with clean water only — no soap or chemicals
- Avoid sitting with sharp objects in pockets (keys, belts)
Monthly Deep Clean
- Use a pH-neutral upholstery cleaner (available at any supermarket)
- Apply with a soft cloth in circular motions
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth, then dry completely
- Do not leave the surface wet — moisture causes the bonding layer to weaken over time
Never use: Bleach, acetone, turpentine, furniture polish containing silicone, or any abrasive cleaning product on leatherette. These will irreversibly damage the surface coating.
Genuine Leather Care (Half & Full Leather)
Weekly
- Dust with a soft dry cloth
- Wipe any spills immediately — leather is absorbent
Monthly Conditioning (Critical)
Genuine leather requires conditioning to prevent cracking. In India's climate, we recommend conditioning every 2–3 months in AC rooms and every 6 weeks in warm, humid environments.
- Use a genuine leather conditioner (Leather Honey, Bick 4, or equivalent)
- Apply a small amount with a soft cloth in circular motions
- Allow to absorb for 15 minutes, then buff off excess
- Never use petroleum-based products on leather
Fabric Care
- Vacuum weekly using an upholstery attachment — fabric traps dust and pet hair
- Spot clean spills immediately with cold water and mild soap
- Never rub a spill — blot from outside inward to prevent spreading
- For dry stains: let dry completely, then brush off gently before cleaning
- Professional upholstery cleaning annually is recommended for fabric recliners in heavy use
Motor Maintenance
The Most Important Step: Surge Protector
Install a surge protector (₹500–₹1,500 at any electronics store) on the power socket used by your recliner. Indian power grids experience voltage fluctuations that slowly damage motor windings over time. A surge protector is the single most important preventive measure for motorised recliners.
Operating Guidelines
- Do not operate the motor while sitting with excess weight on the footrest
- Do not force the mechanism if it stops mid-motion — check for obstructions
- Keep the power lead untangled and away from chair legs
- If the motor makes unusual sounds, contact our service team immediately — do not continue use
Frame & Mechanism
- Do not exceed the recommended weight capacity (120kg standard / 180kg premium models)
- If you hear creaking from the metal mechanism: apply a small amount of WD-40 or lithium grease to the moving joint points
- Do not allow children to bounce or jump on recliners — this stresses frame welds
- If moving home: always fold the recliner before moving. Never drag or tilt when extended.
Seasonal Care for Indian Climate
| Season | Key Care Steps |
|---|---|
| Summer (Mar–Jun) | Condition leather more frequently. Avoid direct AC vent airflow on leather surface. |
| Monsoon (Jul–Sep) | Check for moisture/mildew on fabric recliners. Run AC dehumidifier. Keep room well-ventilated. |
| Winter (Nov–Feb) | Leather may feel stiffer in cold — allow to warm naturally before use. Good time for deep clean. |
